Baltimore will suspend all residential evictions starting Sunday, June 22, through Wednesday, June 26, due to an extreme heat warning forecasted for the region. This temporary halt is being enforced under a Maryland state law that came into effect in October 2024.
The Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office confirmed that “most eviction services must be postponed when extreme weather conditions occur.” The law specifically mandates a pause in residential evictions whenever the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat warning.
Such a warning is issued when the Heat Index is forecasted to hit 105°F (41°C) or higher for two or more consecutive days, with overnight lows remaining above 75°F (24°C). These conditions are considered hazardous, especially for individuals without access to reliable air conditioning or cooling centers.
Property owners or managers with scheduled evictions during this period are advised to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 410-396-7412, or via email at [email protected], for case-specific updates.
For those needing health assistance or access to cooling resources, the Baltimore City Health Department has activated its Code Red Extreme Heat Alert, available online at: https://health.baltimorecity.gov/coderedinfo.
