CINCINNATI, Ohio – Today, Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the FOX19 NOW First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Wednesday, June 18, in Ohio due to the increased threat of strong to severe thunderstorms expected in the evening and overnight.
Damaging winds and large hail the primary concerns
Wednesday’s weather setup will be dominated by the arrival of a line of potentially severe storms sweeping across southwest Ohio, including Cincinnati and the Tri-State area. According to meteorologists, the greatest threats include:
– Damaging straight-line winds
– Isolated large hail events
There is also a low but non-zero risk of isolated tornadoes, especially in zones with greater instability late in the evening.
Storm timing: Expect the strongest activity after sunset
Conditions during most of Wednesday daytime will remain mostly dry and partly sunny, building instability and humidity ahead of the approaching front. The timing window for the most intense activity is projected as follows:
– Earliest arrival: Between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
– Most likely period: From around 9:00 p.m. to midnight, continuing into the early hours of Thursday
Residents in Hamilton County, Butler County, and neighboring areas should be prepared for overnight storms, which may intensify quickly after dark.
Hot and humid air fueling the system
Before storms arrive, the afternoon heat and humidity will dominate. Forecast highs are expected to climb to 88°F (31°C), with feels-like temperatures nearing 90°F (32°C) under the influence of southerly flow.
After sunset, overnight lows will remain elevated around 72°F (22°C), maintaining a humid and unstable atmosphere supportive of nocturnal thunderstorm development.
Stay weather-aware throughout Wednesday
The First Alert Weather Day designation underscores the potential danger posed by this system, particularly due to its timing and intensity. Meteorologists are urging everyone in the Cincinnati metro area and the wider Ohio River Valley to remain vigilant and monitor forecasts closely.
